So, I Get To Choose?
If you are like me, you work a job.
Your schedule is fixed for at least 8 hours.
There is little to no choice there.
Maybe the rest of your day is a little chaotic as well.
But…
When I get home, I can be…
A basketball player leading the league in scoring on the way to the MVP trophy.
Or maybe a platoon leader figuring out a strategy behind enemy lines.
Maybe I am the last survivor on a planet surrounded by angry alien life forms.
Well, whatever you and I choose to be, it is because of gaming!

Video games is an interactive medium that has been at the heart of entertainment since the early days of Atari.
Gaming is one of my favorite sources of entertainment.
This is true for me, even at 46.
And to be honest, I don’t see myself retiring my gaming habit anytime soon.
I want to share with you below a few reasons why I think gaming is so great.
What Makes Gaming So Great
Here are a few reasons, from my perspective, why gaming is so great.
There Is Something For Everyone
Gaming provides something for everyone.
There will be a game for you out there, regardless of your favorite genre.
Many choices are available to keep any gamer happy.
From 1st person shooters to action platformers to role playing games to cool indie titles, there is something for everyone’s taste.
A Sense Of Community
As an introvert who doesn’t game online, I still feel a sense of community through video games.
This is because there are gamers who like the games I like.
I know there are others out there playing and enjoying games the same way I am.
There are many Discord, Patreon, and Reddit communities now where people can connect thanks to the internet.
I also feel connected to content creators who enjoy video games for the love of it.
I created the Nerding Out channel because I know there is a community of nerds who appreciate and love gaming like me.
Monetization
If you can make money from something you love doing, I would suggest doing it.
Video gaming and the advent of the internet gives many people the opportunity to monetize the passion for gaming.
Content creators, game developers, and others can now make money from sharing the love of gaming with their communities.
Freedom of Choice
As I mentioned earlier, there are a lot of choices throughout the day that I can’t make.
I can’t control the price of gas at the local gas station nor can I control the workload at my job.
But when I boot up my game system, I can control the way I play.
I can customize a character for battle or I can choose to play at my own pace.
This is an amazing freedom that comes with that.
Nostalgia
I think nostalgia is a very important part of gaming.
There are lots of gamers who have a love for older systems like Atari and NES.

And I’m here for it.
Playing an older game like Super Mario Bros takes me back to my childhood.
Nostalgia is helpful in that it reminds us of the simpler times.
Playing a certain game puts me at ease and helps me to relax after a long day.
Nostalgia is not only about the games themselves, but also about the wonderful memories that came with it.
Now, I know I can create more good memories because of gaming.
Conclusion
Gaming provides so many opportunities for great memories and connections.
But it’s not all a bed of roses when it comes to video games.
There are a lot of toxic gaming communities out there as well as lack of creativity in game development, in my opinion.
I do think that the good more than outweighs the bad when it comes to the gaming space.
Video games are here to stay, and I am glad for that.
