Do The Opposite, Like George Costanza!

The Same Old Thing

Maybe I’m in a rut.

Seeing the same old people at work each day.

Eating the same foods over and over again.

Having the same mundane conversations with friends.

Travelling the same route to work.

Shopping at the same stores.

Talking to the same people over and over.

Sometimes life can be a drag.

I struggle with changing my routine.

I tend to get frustrated with the monotony of daily life.

But it’s hard to break the daily cycle.

So, the question is…how to break out of that cycle that causes the rut?

We can take a cue from our good ole friend, George Louis Costanza.

Do The Opposite!

George Costanza was struggling in his life.

He felt like every decision resulted in poor results.

It all came to a head one day for George.

Here is the hilarious clip from the Seinfeld YouTube channel.

A few takeaways from this video.

  • George had friends that encouraged him to do the opposite.
  • George took a small but powerful action.
  • One change started the ball rolling for him.

First, it is about having friends that can help you make it to the next level.

Jerry encouraged George to do something different.

Having a good circle that can help propel you is key to any amount of success in life.

Next, George took the smallest action possible.

George started to do the opposite with changing his meal.

He normally ate the same thing at Monk’s, so he changed it to something different.

This tells me that taking a small bit of action can make a huge difference.

One change started the ball rolling for him.

George’s change in meal had caught the attention of a lady.

She ordered the same thing.

This connection led to George becoming a member of the Yankees organization.

From this, he was able to move out of his parents’ home.

You never know how a simple change can make a difference.

Conclusion

One change can make a big difference in your life.

While Seinfeld and George’s situation are fictional, there is a real takeaway here.

Start with a small change. (And I’m talking to myself as well.)

  • Take a different route to work.
  • Try a different food.
  • Start that YouTube channel or blog.
  • Ask that person on a date.
  • Apply for that job.
  • Write the song.
  • Draw that drawing.

I think you get the idea.

Change a little something.

This could be the one change that makes room for a new, exciting chapter in your life.
