Philippians 4:13: A Recipe for Mental Health

The Mental Health Crisis!

Most of us won’t or don’t know how to talk about mental health.

There is so much frustration in this world.

From the rise of artificial intelligence to grocery prices, there is a lot to be frustrated about.

It’s just easier to ignore the pain and scroll on Tik-Tok.

We force ourselves to be strong, to push through, to grind our way out of trouble.

After all, life keeps going.

And so should we.

However, the more we ignore our mental health, the worse things get.

We were never meant to struggle with mental health alone.

It is important for us to acknowledge that we need help.

That help can come on leaning towards God and His Word.

It just so happens that the Bible has a solution for mental health woes.

The Bible Offers Help

Like in most situations, the Bible offers us a helpful solution.

Let’s look at Philippians 4:13 NASB.

I can do all things through Him who strengthens me.

You may be asking how this verse relates to our mental health.

Doesn’t the verse say that we can do all things?

Yes, it does.

HOWEVER

It says that we can do all things through Christ who strengthens us.

In other words, we are doing things in Christ’s strength, not our own.

Christ does the heavy lifting for us.

This should be a relief, meaning we don’t have to be strong all of the time.

We have a personal Jesus and His Spirit to help us in life.

We lean on God to help us through the issues of life, instead of having to depend on ourselves.

Conclusion

Sometimes, we ignore our mental health, pushing through without thinking twice.

However, this kind of life is not sustainable.

God offers us help in His Word and a relationship with Him.

Also, you should always consider therapy if life gets heavy.

Therapists can be a means that God uses to bring us healing.
