For many years, video game movies got a bad reputation.
However, with the recent Sonic the Hedgehog movies as well as the first Super Mario Bros movie, video game movie adaptations are gaining a bit of respect.
Does this recent Mario Bros movie from Nintendo follow through with that momentum?

Super Mario Galaxy Review!
SUPER MARIO GALAXY MOVIE
I will share with you 3 pros and 3 cons about this movie from my opinion.
This is to allow you to make your own decision on whether or not to watch.
I will start with the pros.
BRIGHT, COLORFUL MOVIE
One hallmark of the Super Mario video games is the bright, fun colors.
This movie takes on that same characteristic.
You will see lots of bright colors, visually pleasing to the eyes.
FAN SERVICE
The movie has several references to characters of the Nintendo and Super Mario Bros lore.
There are a few moments to make fans smile and chuckle inside.
If you are sucker for fan service and references to the past like me, you will find this enjoyable.
OUR PRINCESS IS IN ANOTHER CASTLE
I enjoyed learning the backstory of the princess.
The movie explores the origin story of the princess and how she came to be.
I enjoyed learning about the princess’s rise to power.
Here are the cons of Super Mario Galaxy.
THE MOVIE IS BUSY
The movie, in my opinion, has a bit of a loose story.
You are exposed to a lot of things happening at the same time.
The story is not as tight as the first one in my opinion.
FAN SERVICE
I know that I said that fan service is good in this movie.
But sometimes, it can be a little overwhelming.
While I am a fan of these kinds of things, it may turn off others.
You could say it’s a little bit of nostalgia baiting.
“FILLER MOMENTS”
In my opinion, there are few moments where the movie has filler characters and moments that seem out of sync with the movie.
I will allow you to watch that and see what I mean.
While it didn’t take away all of the overall movie, it does seem awkward.
OVERALL RATING
If we are grading 1 to 10, I would give this movie 8.25.
It doesn’t quite have the magic as the first movie, as most sequels don’t.
However, it is a very good, very enjoyable movie!

The Super Mario Galaxy movie was a bright, colorful movie experience.
It was lots of fun, with lots of fan service moments.
Despite a loose story, the movie remains an enjoyable experience.
