The greatest toy of all time is NOT even a toy.
In a manner of speaking.
It is a machine.
A machine that has brought about great change.
It changed how we entertain ourselves.
That machine is the Nintendo Entertainment System!
So, it was 1985…
So, it was a few years after the great video game crash.
Companies were not willing to invest in computer gaming and home console gaming.
But that all changed when the Famicon (or Family Computer) was released in Japan.
And that of course meant a US release in 1985 into 1986.
THIS IS WHAT HAPPENED!
Needless to say, it was a great time to be alive.
And you had to be there to appreciate it.
In order for Nintendo to pull this off, they called themselves an “Entertainment System.”
That gave a distinct flavor from the systems of yesteryear like the Atari and Commodore.
And it created the monster of the video game industry as we know it today.
To say the least, Microsoft and Sony can thank the Nintendo Entertainment System for their successes.
So, I will share with you a few reasons why the NES is the greatest toy of all time.
WHY THE NES IS THE GREATEST TOY OF ALL TIME
In my humble opinion, this is why the NES is the greatest toy of all time.
- The NES has changed how kids “played.”
This was a transition from older toys like action figures and bridged a gap to digital entertainment, which is where we still are now.
2. This showed that video games can be a valid form of entertainment.
After the video game crash of the earlier 80’s, it was thought that the NES would be just another fad.
But, it turned into something that no one could fathom.
3. Something family all could enjoy together.
Even though most families can’t enjoy most games together today, the NES was a way for families to bond.
That is especially true for games like Super Mario Bros.
Conclusion
So, that is why I say that the Nintendo Entertainment System is the greatest toy of all time.
Of course, this is my feeling as I am looking at it with partly nostalgic eyes.
