It is a day to celebrate the Caped Crusader, The Dark Knight, Gotham’s native son…Batman.

Batman is one of the most beloved characters in all of comic books and pop culture.

The character of Batman was created decades ago.

But he remains one of the most respected characters in comics.

My first exposure to Batman came from The Superfriends cartoon.

Even though Batman had no superpowers, I saw him as a competent peer to the other superheroes.

I also remember watching “Batman: The Animated Series,” which is one of the best animated series of all time in my opinion.

This series allowed Batman to shine and cast a spotlight on Batman’s greatness.

Many comic books, graphic novels, movie adaptations, and video games have been created to honor Batman.

As a fan, I am glad he has a day to be celebrated.

Batman Is a Regular Guy

Batman can’t fly like Superman.

He doesn’t have super speed like The Flash.

He doesn’t possess super strength like The Incredible Hulk.

He’s not a god like Thor.

He is a regular guy.

(Depending on your definition of regular, lol)

Bataman built up his body and mind to be able to fight crime.

With concerted effort, we can build our bodies and minds similarly to Batman.

This makes Batman a relatable person, more so than a hero with superpowers.

The Best Villains in Comics

The Joker is one of the most unpredictable villains in all of geek culture.

In my opinion, Batman has one of the best sets of villains in all of comics, if not the best.

Batman’s villains are so weird that most of them are locked up in Arkham Asylum with psychiatrists on speed dial. (LOL)

I haven’t read every comic book or know of every fandom out there.

But in my humble opinion, Batman’s villains are some of the best in all of pop culture.

Turned a Negative into a Positive

For those unfamiliar with Batman’s back story, young Bruce Wayne’s parents were murdered in front of him.

This is an unspeakable tragedy that would have crippled most.

Bruce Wayne developed his mind and body to make sure that others don’t experience the tragedy he did.

This tragedy inspires him to fight crime in Gotham City.

Batman uses his wealth to develop tech and gadgets that help him get an advantage over Batman’s worst criminals.

He allowed his negative circumstances fuel his heroism to protect Batman.

We definitely could learn from this.

Often, we wallow in our misery and difficulties.

However, our difficulties can be purposeful when we see them as such.

Conclusion

Batman is an example of how power and influence comes with responsibility.

Because of his wealth, he could easily ignore the plight of common Gotham citizens.

He chooses to protect those who can’ t protect themselves.

He is unselfish, putting his life on the line to fight crime.

Bruce Wayne is philanthropic, giving to causes to make Gotham better.

All of these reasons and more make Batman one of the best heroes in all of pop culture.
