Captain America: The First Avenger
I have long been a fan of Captain America.
I admire his unselfish patriotism and his desire to always serve others.
He is a perfect example of a great comic book hero.

Having said that, I have never seen the Captain America line of movies.
So, I took it upon myself to watch “Captain America: The First Avenger” last night. (as of the writing of this blog post)
This story features the origin story of Steve Rogers, a scrawny youth who desired to be a soldier in the Army.
Rogers had a lot of heart, despite his lack of physical prowess.
The heart that Rogers possessed didn’t go unnoticed.
A doctor invited Rogers to take part in the experiment of creating an elite soldier.
Rogers becomes that soldier, playing a pivotal role in taking down a power-crazy maniac that threatened to rule the world.
The movie was awesome and I enjoyed it.
I’m always looking for ways that things like comics can relate to my personal spiritual walk.
This movie made me think of a few things.
3 Ways the Captain America Movie Made Me Think of The Kingdom of God.
Here are 3 ways that this Captain America movie made me consider the Kingdom of God.
WILLING TO SACRIFICE FOR WHAT HE BELIEVED IN
Steve Rogers was willing to sacrifice his body during the experiment, especially if it meant serving his country.
Christians equally should be willing to sacrifice themselves for the sake of sharing the gospel and building God’s Kingdom.
ROGERS STOOD FIRM IN THE FACE OF ADVERSITY
Rogers’ friends doubted him.
Women found him awkward.
The military rejected him many times.
However, he stood firm during this adversity.
Rogers believed so strongly in serving his country that he fought past the setbacks, adversities, and difficulties.
We, as believers, are to follow the same pattern.
Below is the verse 1 Corinthians 16:13 (NASB2020) that relates to Captain America.
Be on the alert, stand firm in the faith, act like men, be strong.
We should stand strong for the sake of building God’s Kingdom.
OTHERS WERE ENCOURAGED BY STEVE’S STAND
When Rogers became the super soldier known as Captain America, he believed alone.
However, when people saw the heroism of Rogers in battle, they were quick to join the cause.
We, as believers, should always encourage others towards love and good works.
Hebrews 10:24 (NASB2020) states this…
and let’s consider how to encourage one another in love and good deeds,
Let us reflect the Kingdom of God to others through the way we love, how compassionate we are, and how unselfish we are.
Conclusion
There are many lessons we can learn from Captain America, especially as children of God.
We should follow in the steps of Steve Rogers by:
- Sacrificing ourselves for what we believe in.
- Standing in the face of adversity.
- Encouraging others towards good works
